Game ArtSunstrike Studios produced an internal TRS-80 Model 4 prop study in 2025, shipped as seven hero renders and a single 360-degree turntable video. The piece works as a hard-surface PBR benchmark, showing chassis edge wear, monochrome CRT glass, keycap legibility, and case decals under neutral product lighting.
Each frame validates a different surface read: brushed plastic, glossy CRT bezel, scuffed metal trim, and printed labelwork. The study ships as a public reference piece for the studio 3D game art studio roster outside any client NDA.
The seven still renders cover three-quarter angles, top-down keyboard detail, side profile, and close-ups on CRT, badge, and ventilation slots. Each frame is lit and posed to surface a different aspect of the prop: case plastic edge wear, CRT phosphor glow, keycap legend wear, and metal hinge tarnish.
The single turntable reel cycles a full 360-degree axis so reviewers can validate silhouette, proportion, and material work without a separate studio capture.
Pipeline ran reference photo board, block-out, high-poly hard-surface modeling, retopology, UV layout, bake, and Substance PBR pass under internal art-director review at each gate. Edge bevels and trim sheets were calibrated for a real-time engine drop-in rather than offline render only.
The asset ships with LODs, clean UVs, baked normal and AO maps, and a calibrated Substance material set. The pipeline plugs into broader scene work alongside studio game background design deliverables for retro-tech interior dressing.
Realistic PBR read with a grounded retro-computing palette: cream-beige case plastic, dark CRT bezel, off-white keycap legends, and matte metal trim. Specular pops on CRT glass and badge ornament carry visual weight without breaking the period-accurate read.
Material rules stay in line with photo reference of the 1980s TRS-80 hardware so the prop reads as a recognizable archetype across genre pitches, retro-thriller scene dressing, or 80s-set narrative builds.
